Is anyone aware of any NEC code, federal code, state code, or city codes that do not allow an owner of a building to install a pad lock onto a main switch and lock the main switch "ON" or energized? I have seen provisions for locking a disconnect "OFF" for maintenance reasons, etc., but I am unaware of locking a disconnect, especially a main switch, "ON". Thank you. Lee

| You can't lock a service disconnect in the energized position because other than common sence in the event of an emergency the firemen need a place to disconnect power from the building. I believe this is in the NFPA standards.
