My Boss told me today that an inspector told him it is a code violation to use 6awg aluminum conductors for a household range. He asked me to look in the code to see if I could find anything, well I cant. So where is he getting this from? I usually use 8 copper anyway with a 40 amp breaker so this is just for info. Thanks

| quote: 550.15 Wiring Methods and Materials. Except as specifically limited in this section, the wiring methods and materials included in this Code shall be used in mobile homes. Aluminum conductors, aluminum alloy conductors, and aluminum core conductors such as copper-clad aluminum shall not be acceptable for use as branch-circuit wiring.
Here is one that says you can't use Aluminum in mobile homes but I can't find anything for a normal dwelling. Might be a local code. I would never use aluminum even if it were legal. Too many service calls and an eventual rewire of an apartment complex that was wired in aluminum. Probably would have no problem using it for a range if copper wasn't available. Jim
