Subject - Balancing your service panel?
Tom R Hi, I'm new here. Name is Tom R, and I'm a carpenter with an 'electrical' question. An electrician told my worker that the 'load' on each side of your service panel has to be as balanced as possible or you will pay a higher electric bill. I've never heard of such a thing, is it true? I told him I'd 'ask the experts'. Thanks in advance.
Dave Nix Hi Tom, welcome to the forum!

Sounds like your electrician needs a little more training!

In order to make a "hill of beans" difference, one would really have to try to "unbalance" a residential service panel.

Most likely he doesn't understand that most circuits breakers in panels are staggered across phases from one position to the next vertically. Simply having the same amount of breakers on the left as the right nakes no difference!
JimmyDee Welcome Tom to the forum. Balancing the panel is not all that bad of an idea but it will make no difference in your electric bill. When you pay your bill, you will pay per kilowatt and the meter doesn't care which side of the buss the power comes from nor does it care if the panel is balanced or not.
Like David said, I think your electrician needs more training. Let me guess, he will balance your panel for a small fee. Is that correct?

Tom R Thanks guys, I thought it sounded like B.S. but I figured it don't hurt to ask. No, he's not my electrician (and never will be), just someone my worker ran into on a 'side job'. And thanks for the welcome to your great forum!
