Subject - UNEDUCATED BOSSES AT WORK AGAIN
veganfan Here we go again as you may recall from my post on help with my job. I work in a factory were very few know NEC at all and ones that do will tell you they are they AHJ and over ride it. Well now only electrician we had as supervisor quit. So I have uneducated people for bosses yesterday I had to install four fans one side of pole and drop power for them. 120v service already in ceiling. I just had to reroute the service to reach fans and add a receptacle so I would be able to pug in fans. When I went to find breaker to shut off to work on found out it was a 30A breaker for a 15A service. I explain problem to boss, and he tells me that is fine two 15A receptacles means I need 30A breaker. I tried to explain that it does not work this way, but he would have no part of it. Then said besides if you try to run four fans off of 15A or 20A circuit it would proabablely trip it. So I pointed out I did not think it would, but if it did. Then we would need two circuits. He basically said he did not think I knew what I was talking about, and leave it on 30A breaker. I even tried using NEC to show him, but he still felt I was stupid.

What can you do, but laugh.
JimmyDee Ask him to put in writing what he wants you to do. Explain to him what the NEC says and insist that he put it in writing that he is overriding your knowledge and will be fully responsible. I'll bet he will back down. If the place burns down, his name will be on the top of the responsibility list.
I would just do the job and not ask him how to do it or just go ahead and do it correctly.

renosteinke Time for a new job.

Also, consider documenting such thing, then writing the city.
