Hello everyone,
Do I need to install GFCI receptacles for single-phase 120V water coolers, ice machines and water fountains? The water cooler and water fountain are located in my office area and the ice machine is in our industrial work bay. Our safety guy is really pursuing this issue hard! Can someone please give me a code reference or point me in the right direction
Thanks

| No, no and no. 210.8(B) of the 2002 requires GFCI protection for receptacle outlets in the following locations:
(1) Bathrooms (2) Rooftops (3) Kitchens.
No more, no less. :)
You might check the OSHA 1926 and 1910 standards, however. I am led to beleive that one of these documents may require it.

| Ground fault protection/receptacles are required at all wet locations.
A wet location is generally perceived as a location at which normal activity could/does create the ponding of fluids upon the floor.

Since when? Can you please include a code reference to back up your statement?

| Livewire: Could you possibly be talking about 517.20 ? This would only apply to health care facilities.
