Subject - light go on off
jen4 im having problems with one circuit my over head lights work for a week or so then they will flicker then go off sometimes they come right back on and sometimes they stay off.all wires seem to be tight.help
Scott Vickrey What kind of lights are they(fluorescent or incandescent)? It sounds to me like you have a bad connection somewhere that is getting extremely hot or worse arcing. Your post is setting of alarm bells in my mind. This sounds like a fire hazard. I would call an electrician as soon as possible. Just to be safe check the battery in your smoke detector. Have a fire drill with your family. Learn where the main breaker is to the house.
Electricman jen4, You need to obtain the services of an qualified electrician my advice call one ASAP. Your situation seems rather dangerous.
cs409 i hope if your reading my post that you have already called to have this problem fixed........stop trying to figure it out, just call and get an electrician .....best to you
jen4 thanks for the reply i have turned the braker off for that circuit and am going to call a electrician.ill let you know what the problem is.a question why dosnt it trip my braker?why does it work for so long (week or so ) before it goes off?thanks again.
Electricman jen4, a fault in the wiring system wont always cause the overcurrent device(breaker or fuse) to open if the fault does not exceed the amperage of the overcurrent device. An example might be a short circuit that would only draw 8 amps on a circuit that would be protected by an 15 amp device.
