Old EKR Archives: Subject - Warning Graphic Burns, Stay Safe |
|
| Joe Tedesco |
(Move to this forum from the Images forum) Please be reminded that May is Electrical Safety Month! Be careful and safe all year too! WARNING!! WARNING!! VERY GRAPHIC IMAGES OF ELECTRICAL BURNS Submitted by: OSHA Professor - Grizzy http://electrical-contractor.net/jt/grz1.JPG Talking about insulated tools earlier, here’s some accidents which resulted from not using insulated tools, and / or insulated gloves, and / or lockout etc. This worker will never practice in the trade any more. How will the family be provided for? How will he play baseball with his children? These are the accidents I see, day in and day out. http://electrical-contractor.net/jt/grz2.JPG Same hand a few days later, when massive subcutaneous tissue damage had caused severe swelling (swelling usually peaks 24-72 hours after electrical shock). To relieve pressure , which would have damaged nerves and blood vessels, the skin on the arm was cut open. |
| JimmyDee | First words to me some 40 years ago when I started the trade was, "there are no old careless electricians". Have seen as many totally incapacitated by burns as I have deaths. I've lost 2 friends and 2 that I knew from the job and that is 4 too many. Without exception, each accident was preventable. Work Carefully should be the mantra of each person in the trade. Jim |
| Joe Tedesco | How many are using PPE? |
| Ryan_J | Not enough |
| gkiefferjr | quote:The way I heard it was: "There are bold electricians and old electricians but NO BOLD & OLD electricians. Your words are wise ones for those who want to keep their fingers & toes. |
| Apprentice | Forgive me if this sounds trivial, but I've heard it as (pointing towards the transformer) "You hear that hum? That's your ass!" |
| craigb | quote: So True |
| Wirenuts | always been told your not fast enough to beat electricity remember the speed of light it travels faster then you can see!!!! Welcome now that we have your attention this is what we work with!!! |
| l0sts0ul | I live by the words my father said to me: "Never stick your finger where you wouldn't put your ****" you can figure out what the **** are.... I lived by this rule for many things, not just my trade. |
| garrfish | quote: Every day my employer take this very very serous. There words use it or hit the unemployment office no questions asked just a pink slip |
| Top Hand | PPE is important but not near as important as being carefully and aware. Too many people get too busy and become careless and complacent relying on ppe. Person protective equipment is worn so that the one who screwed up can live to tell others what not to do, and hopefully not do again themselves. |
