whenever I have installed a residential meter socket-disconnect next to a utility pole, I have run four conductors to the load center in the house. I have heard that this is not necessary if an earth ground is picked up at the sub panel. Is this now common practice?

| I think you should be running 4 conductors, personally. I just don't see how you could ensure that there will never be any other metallic paths between the two "buildings".

| Speaking of 4 conductors, someone told me that they was required by the county they were working in to run a service stack with 4 conductors. This was on a mobile home, single phase, service stack. Has anyone ever heard of this? I can't see where the fourth wire would connect?
