Old EKR Archives: Subject - Master Exam
David Hyatt Fellows, I took my master exam today. I will know Mon or Tues. if I passed. I am pretty excited I will let you know.
Electricman I will be talking to our carpenter friend about this bro.
David Hyatt It must be late, I looked at a members profile to see what carpenter friend you were talking about before it hit me. Didn't take long but it took a minute.
JimmyDee Its a huge stepping stone toward the future. Wishing you well. I think the Carpenter left his job at about 30 years of age and went into the ministry. Should have told us about this before the exam so we could have talked to Him about this then.
Jim
David Hyatt Well I was supposed to find out tonight about my test score. I paid an extra $25.00 to find out today. I was supposed to call after 5:00 and get an autimated score but they don't have it yet. Looks like it will be tommorrow. I think I want my money back. Hopefully I will know in the morning.
bryan I was talking electrical and all of you keep talking about some carpenter.Explain please.
Electricman Carpenter= Jesus
bryan o.k. just checking to see if romans 10 verse 11 was a problem for you brothers in Christ.Feel good that you would be that fast to respond to such a great subject.
JimmyDee A believer that isn't prepared for a test, just might find himself disappointed.
Jim

YukonRay Gentlemen (and Ladies)
Nice to see so many believers in the forum. I am taking my Masters test on Wednesday. I have just about finished with Mike Holts Exam Prep guide.

The test is a Minnesota Masters. It is worth 100 points and 70 to pass. 25 Open code book questions - have to have correct answers and code reference. 50 memory questions. Mostly multiple choice.

I am a little nervous.
David Hyatt Good luck Yukon. I took mine through Exsperior and it was all open book.
David Hyatt Let me refraise that believers don't need luck.
YukonRay David - I know this is an older post - but I just wanted to let you know, I passed the Minnesota Masters Exam

Thanks

Tom

Tom, on a job well done!

"Grasshopper, you shall soon take over."
JimmyDee

Congratulations!

I'm happy for you Tom.
Jim
David Hyatt Thanks super Tom, God bless.
macmikeman Congratulations to you. Job well done. I passed my first license exam in 1982. Here is my tip to you. Please do not hesitate now you have passed your test. KEEP UP WITH THE STUDY. Read as many electrical books as you can get your hands on. There are boatloads of them out there on all different area's of our trade. This way you will keep on learning new stuff and when new doors of opportunity open up, you will be ready to jump right in. I have watched too often when fellow sparks get the license they just put it into neutral gear as far as continuing the learning process. For them I guess the paycheck upgrade is the only goal.

As other's said,
God Bless You.

Mike
macmikeman P.S. forgive the spelling, forgot to spellcheck and am not wearing my glasses.

It's no surprise, however, you sound like you are citizens of The Country where dreams come through and where goodness and mercy follow you all the days of your life.
Louis Reyes-Layne Congratulations David,

It's no surprise, however, you sound like you are citizens of The Country where dreams come through and where goodness and mercy follow you all the days of your life.

Larry_C I've just signed up to take my masters exam in Nov(Georgia). I was going to take Tom Henry's review. I've heard it was pretty good. Has anyone else taken it? I'm also trying to find a good used copy of the American's Electrical Handbook 14th editon. Its so expensive brand new. Its hard enought scraping up for this upcomming class
If anyone has any helpful advise, I could use it.

Here is one available on ebay that you might want to bid on. Cheap.
Larry_C Thanks, I've been keeping up with E-bay for some time now. This is the first 14th editon that i've seen. There is also a few copies on Amazon starting at $52. When are you taking your exam?

Let's see .... I took my Maryland Masters exam in 1982, my Virginia Masters in 1984, and my Delaware Masters in 1991. Passed `em all on the 1st try

kapakahi Congratulations. four hours, 100 questions, that's almost three minutes a question. How many places only offer closed book testing?
Larry_C By chance has anyone seen quick tabs for the American Electrical Handbook?
lctrc789 Try Tom Henry's site. Not sure if he does but that is a good place to start....
duavan1 Found out results in 2 days. Took 6 weeks in GA.
MJW Congratulations Dave, I hope I can join in the euphoria soon. I am taking my Michigan Master's Test in December. I am studying as much as I can. Seems the more I study/learn the more I realize I don't know that much. This is all very stressful to me. I hope I don't have a mental breakdown before the test. It is hard on the family too, with Dad yelling "quiet please I'm trying to study!".
Larry_C Welp... I took my masters exam here in Georgia today. By chance any of you guys taking here in Georgia soon, make sure that there isn't any handwritting in your books. They are starting to check on that, and either you have to remove it (cut out the page), mark it out, or not use that book. Guess I'll find out how I did in about 6 weeks.
jwhite wish you luck larry. they been checking books for years alot of places. here in nc they no longer let you bring your own anything into the exam room, including cell phone and coat. they provide all the materials including calculator, code book, pencil, and paper.
Larry_C Seems like it would be easier and cheeper for us, if they would just put all of the informaiton on a lap top and let us use it. Then we would have all the info we would need, like in the real world, and they could make sure there are no extra items in the test.
jwhite about a year ago i took and passed the masters unlimited test in north carolina. i hope i dont piss anyone from this great state off, but the journeymans test in penna was more difficult. i took that several years ago. both states use a state wide exam system, but they also obviously use different testing services. one would think there should be some national standard for testing.
e-star When I took my test a couple of years ago, I was expecting a 4 hour open book test and a 3 hour closed book test. I got a new copy of the 2002 NEC and a study guide (don't remember which one - it is boxed up now) and studied pretty hard for a couple of weeks. When I went to take the test at a contract testing facility, I finished the open book part of the test in right at 4 hours. I was going to go to lunch and come back for the closed book part of the test. So I asked the guy administering the test what time I needed to be back. He informed me that the testing procedures had changed and that now it was only a 5 hour open book test and that I was through. Not only that, but since the test was computer based, he went over and punched a few buttons on his computer and told me that I'd passed. I have no idea what my score was (they don't reveal that - it's only pass or fail). Man, I was so psyched up for the closed book part of the test, I didn't quite know how to react.
kbsparky I really don't know why anyone should be subjected to a closed book test; in the real world you have the book available to check out the rules when dealing with jobsite issues.

jwhite cudos and i agree kbsparky. in the real world we can even call others and ask for help. the test limits us on that part. but why a section needs to be closed book is beyond me.
Larry_C A month and one half later, and the results are in. I did it I PASSED Now I guess I can sell those pratice exam books on e-bay and make back some money, hehehe.
jwhite congradulations Larry. WOOO HOOOO and Way to GO...
But, dont sell the books, give them to someone less experienced than yourself
hdpaul1 Hi Dave,

Congratulations from Massachusetts. Sounds like you exam is similar to ours. I too got my Masters last week. Ours is two parts. Electrical - 4 hours, business - 2 hours. Funny thing, I passed the electrical first try but the business I had to take twice. I am very happy as I know you are too. I am now deciding whether to go on my own (I work for a Utility, making power). I am 54 and have wanted to get my Masters for quite some time but no ambition.

For you; Go for all the gusto! Be driven to your goal and you will succeed, with the Lord's hand of course.

Paul
