Another crew that works with our company got the privalage of wiring for an indoor endless wave pool. The pool required to be GFCI protected the electrician who did the install told me that the pool manuf. called for a grounded install only (no neutral) my question is how does the Gfci work without a neutral?

| They make double pole GFCIs just for that application. Ground only necessary for operation. Jim

| How does it work without a neutral? Does it measure the potential diff. between the two poles?

| 120 volt GFCIs work by comparing the current on the ungrounded conductor(hot) and the current on the grounded conductor(neutral). If the current is the same then all is well. If the current is less in the neutral the this means some current is leaking to ground and the GFCI interrupts the circuit. So, you can see that a 240 volt GFCI simply compares the current on each ungrounded conductor(hot). Pretty simple, right? I love simple.

| Thats what I thought, thanks guys. Everybody we talked to thought the same thing but no one could say for definite thats how it worked with 240 volt. To bad all things arent that simple.
