Subject - I am ignorant! Please help!
DamTrucker I am trying to set up a airconditioning system in my semi truck. I need to know what 20 hours @ 225 ah means. I have no clue. My best guess would be, I can draw 225 amps for 20 hours out of the battery before it is discharged. I need to know how big of a battery I will need to run my 110 aircon. using an inverter. Thank you in advance, oh wise one!
JimmyDee I'm fairly sure your assessment is correct. One amp hour for a battery is one amp draw for one hour. So 225 amp hours would be 225 amps for one hour and 20 of those would be 225 amps for 20 hours.
With all that said, I doubt that you could carry that many batterys in your semi. A typical car sized HD battery will deliver about 70 amp hours. That is 70 amps for one hour. 225 amps is about what a V8 engine starter or a hydraulic system for an electric snow plow draws. At best, the engine will need to be running to keep it going and you are going to need one huge inverter. Even if your system is a 24 volt system, the size of the leads are going to be big.
