Subject - Wiring Row Houses in Washington DC
Ingram321 Owner says Electrical rough in in the DC row house does not allow NM cable for wiring row houses in Washington DC? I find that he is in error on this. NM cable should be ok.DC follows NEC national code, did not read anything local codes for DC prohibting use of NM cable for row house. Protection of the cable will be done by steel plates or sleeved in emt as needed.I sleve NM cable for sleeving down inside the brick that had to be channeled out to the basemet from the 1st floor, and at 2nd floor same applicastions. I do not know of any local DC code prohitbting NM cable inside the row houses. Do I stand correct in using NM cable roughing in DC row houses or am I stuck with using Armored cable.
JimmyDee Sometimes local code are change to alter the NEC. Although I think it is stupid to require anything but type NM (romex) the row housed may have a different rating and may require EMT or BX. Your best bet is to call the DC Electrical Inspection Department and find out from them. You could save yourself some grief.
ricky Yep.The local inspector has the final say.I agree.Call and ask. They are nice guys really,Just don't make 'em mad.
