Subject - 150amp panelboard, 200 amp breaker
scrout
A house inspector caught the following:

Cutler Hammer CH30JM150 panelboard, circa 1978, (residential) rated at 150 amps max with a 200 amp main breaker installed.

Did someone cut corners here? Looks like the original install.
Does a 150 amp main breaker need to be installed in place of the 200 amp part for code?

This is in Oregon.

David Hyatt This has been working for many years I suppose, I would leave it if the wireing is rated for 200amps. The panel encloseure and bus bars are not much different in the two.
JimmyDee If it has a 200 amp breaker I would be willing to bet that it is a full 200 amp panel right from the factory. Probably has the wrong lable on it. Like David has said the same guts are used in different size panels for cost purposes.
