Subject - Hot Tub GFCI Outdoor breaker box
danw1399 From what I understand, breaker box needs to be more than 5 ft but less than 30 ft away from hot tub. It also needs to be in line of sight from hot tub. Is it ok to install box around side of house so you can still see box, but the side of box not the front of box? Does line of site mean it has to be straight on view? Or is side view OK? thanks much, dan
David Hyatt Why are you installing a breaker box for a hot tub anyway?
What is the voltage? Is it hard wired or plugs in?
Where did you read, breaker with-in line of sight?
Is this a residence?
Scott Vickrey Line of site simply means you can see it. Regardless of what part of the panel you can see.
JimmyDee I think some are installing the GFCI outside and calling that their disconnect. I think mounting it around the corner will work just fine. If you use liquid tight conduit, this can not be longer than 6'. If you use a cord and plug it can be as long as 15'. You can use a factory assembly no matter how long it is. Line of site is for the person working on the equipment, not the user necessarily. As has already been inferred, the disconnecting means can be a plug and many are doing it this way now.

danw1399 Thanks guys! It is a residence outdoor disconnect and gfci, 50 amp 240 with a separate 15 amp 110 for other lights etc. I plan on running watertight conduit from house to disconnect, about 30 ft, JimmyDee you said 6 ft max?
David Hyatt In most places when the code refers to with-in line of sight, if you can lockout the breaker this should be code.
