Subject - wiring requirement for water well
Kirk My water well guy will be here in a couple of days to drill my well. He said I need "10 gauge, double pole" to run about 180 feet to the site for the 220 volt pump. What specifically do I need to get when I go to Home Depot? Does that mean 2-wire and a ground? Thanks.
Kirk
JimmyDee 2 conductor 10 with ground is what you need for this job.
(On edit) Type UF
Jim
Scott Vickrey If your going to be runnun this cable underground the cable you need is call UF cable the size you need is 10/2 with groung. If this is for residential purpose the cable needs to be buried at least 18 inches deep. Better rent the trencher while your there. Direct buried cables emerging from the ground have to be protected by conduit. This conduit needs to extend down in the ground to the burial depth(18") and needs a bushing on the underground end of the conduit.
Electricman Just wondering how deep is the well? How come your well guy doesnt use a cap. start pump? What HP motor? Dont get me wrong I am not questioning your well guys knowlege just curiuos is all.
David Hyatt Scott, this circuit will have to be 24" deep unless in conduit. May want to consider voltage drop if not already figured in.
