I always use 8'x 5/8 ground rod. When can you use 1/2 rods? The suppliers sell these why can't we use them???

When the rod is made of stainless steel or other non-ferrous material, such as copper. See NEC 250.52(A)(5)
Galvanized steel rods are required to be 5/8" minimum diameter.
I think some copper-clad rods also qualify for the ½" size.

| We use 1/2 inch copper clad rods and they are allowed in many areas however if it is Galvanized it must be 5/8 minimum... Different localities have different codes on this. Always check with your local utility or local inspector...
