I got to talking to a general contractor today and he asked me about a problem he was having in some of his new homes. The problem is that when either the heat or air comes on, it sets the detectors off. He said it seems to be limited to the houses that have 2 zones on one floor. The detectors only go off when the bedroom door is closed, open the door, they go off. Seems to me there is too much pressure when the door is closed. Would that mean the return is sized wrong. He said his hvac guy and electrician just blame it one each other and nothing is fixed. Any thoughts on that?

| where are the ducts in relation to the smokes...sometimes the hvac guys place them too close and any dust in the duct gets blown directly into the smokes

| The furnaces burn off oil from the factory when first starting up. It will almost always set off the smokes. After they run awhile it will burn off and there shouldn't be a problem after that.
