Hi All,
This one has me stumped: My house was built in the early 60's. A lamp shorted out in the back bedroom and killed the power in that room and the bedroom beside it. I checked the breaker but it seems fine. I know that most house wiring is daisy-chained from the breaker switch, but is there a good area to start looking for the wire discontinuity? Could there be junction splice somewhere between the outlet and the breaker box? The attick is 12" deep in blown insulation so I don't relish the though of tracing wiring any further than I have to... Should I check where the last good link in the daisy chain is?? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated....
Thx!!

| Do you mean ceiling fixture or a table lamp? How did you decide it was shorted, what happened? What do you mean by daisy chain?, this is a term not normally associated with residential branch circuit wiring. It is used to describe more frquently premise wiring on old telephone circuits.

| Shut the breaker off and check each outlet. You will probably find the open in one of the receptacles. Although we normally don't use the term daisy chained, you are correct in your assumption that that is the way they are wired. Jim

| To be more specific, the lamp was plugged into a nonswitched wall outlet when it sparked out and shut down the outlets in both back rooms.... Thanx to input that I received I will start my inspections at the affected outlets, starting with the one where the evil spirits got in... When I use the term "daisy-chain" I mean that the outlets are wired in a common circuit.
