Subject - 12 wire on a 15 amp circuit
Rob96 Is it ok to use 12 wire on a 15 amp circuit? Thanks.
Ryan_J Yes. You're welcome.
Rob96 Thanks Ryan. I was almost sure of it, but wanted to ask. Thanks again.

Actually, in some cases, due to long runs and voltage drop considerations, it is preferable to use a 12 wire on a 15 Amp circuit. I know of some contractors who automatically use the next larger size wire for his home runs back to the panel, once the length exceeds 100 feet.
luckyshadow If you are using # 12 for the entire circuit it's great. If you are using #12 for , lets say the homerun , then dropping down to # 14 I would suggest placing a tag on the conductors at the panel. By tagging these conductors some future electrician won't place them on a 20 amp breaker, which would be too large an overcurrent device for the #14.
banditfrompa I thought that you could not mix wire sizes.

You can if you protect them properly.
