Subject - 3 phase Panel disconnect controller
WannamakeIce What control would you use to disconnect 3phase electrical panel to cookin appliances under exhaust hood for fire suppression unit that gives 2 micro switches , 1 NO , the other NC.?
rabbitgun Shunt trip breaker(s)
lctrc789 Rabbit, is right most of the time if you work with the fire alarm folks and get the specs, you should see that shunt trip breakers are there for the entire panel.
WannamakeIce no specs in the work order , i had to call the company to see how the controls even tied into their system. Can you all clarify...
rabbitgun Thanks Pat, Your OK in my book as well!

I was interrupted by work on my previous post and did not get a chance to make a few comments. I intended to just edit my first post but since Pat posted I will add comments here.

I think you may be mistaken on the micro switches and may have two sets of form C's giving you common.NO.NC times two.

I would use one set to control your hood system shut down and leave the other set for Fire Alarm system monitoring if there is a Fire Alarm System.

I have usually found that as well as shutting down the power under the hood system there was a requirement to automatically turn off any make up air units to the kitchen and also automatically turn on the exhaust fans on the hood.

I have also run into situations where the Fire dept did not want the power under the hood to automatically restart when the hood was reset. This meant I would either need to set up a latching relay system for a contactor feeding the under hood power and use a restart button. Or, use a shunt trip system where the breaker(s) would need to be manually reset.

Since different fire jurisdictions all seem to have their own requirements I have found it is usually worth a call to the fire dept inspector to ask what their requirements are.

EDIT: Wanna, We just posted a few seconds apart. What would you like clarification on?
lctrc789 I think rabbit has clarified as well as can be, check with the local jurisdiction and see if they have certain specs they need for this application...
Let us know how you come out on this.
