(The other 2 identical threads have been deleted due to multiple posting. Multiple threads of the same identical topic are not allowed in multiple forums. One topic = one thread = one forum) JimmyDee, Moderator.) I am graduating from a tech school with a 2 year electrician diploma.
I was wondering if anyone might share insights into differences between working as a union electrician apprentice or working for a private contractors.
Pay is not that important to me. But longterm career advancement, therefore trainning, is also important to me.
I hope to work oneday in industrial control or electrical drafting
area.
thanks

| Here are two very good discussions on the topic. Also feel free to email me at MONOCORP@comcast.net; as you will see, some of the real heart of this conversation has to be discussed privately.
Best of Luck.

I am union and have worked both sides, right now where I live the union is strong and many are layed off but that works s for aspects in the feild on both sides. Again how strong is the union where you live?, are they busy? etc. Where do you want to start what feild residential, commercial, industrial etc.. I say good luck and keep your nose in the books and get some feild experience at what you want to do.. I have a good pension plan, good benefits, and make good money for the most part being union, The decision is up to you and what you decide on how strong is the union in your local area and how good is the pay and benefets for non union. I wish you the best in what you do
