In a three phase system, does the kilowatt-hour meter measure the total kilowatt-hour or just the kilowatt-hour per phase?

| 3 phase power is read the same way your power at home is read for the most part, the meters either by the same way your meter works at home or by current transformers ( CTs) or by metering it at the transformers. Usually many of the larger businesses and 3 phase industial jobs get a real good reduced rate for the power consumption as well as they can use capacitors and other means to reduce the cost of their hourly rate. The kilowatt is a measure of how much power something uses (i.e) a 1200 watt heater uses 1200 watts per hour and you pay for what you use. 3 Phase does the same thing you pay for what you use, each phase of power the meter reads 3 phases or just one it will read the total power used per phase or all 3.
