Subject - Motor fusing
master elec. I have a 480volt single phase motor to which I'm adding supplemental overload protection in the form of in line fuses. Do I need to instal 1 or 2?
Wirenutz Table 430.37 addresses this
master elec. Thanks, I already checked in code quite extensively but can't seem to find exact clarifacation of the use of one or two fuses.
kbsparky If you are using fuses for supplemental protection, then you need to use one in each ungrounded conductor:

quote:

430.36 Fuses - In Which Conductor. Where fuses are used for motor overload protection, a fuse shall be inserted in each ungrounded conductor....
emphasis added

master elec. Thanks, thats exactly what I thought.
