I get the best leads from other tradesmen on the job, Plumbers, Carpenters, etc. I always show them respect, apologize if I think I'm in their way, let them use my ladder or whatever if they ask...
I like to chat them up about computers or the Internet. I take their picture with my digital camera, I give them my card which has my email address on it, I say "email me and I'll send you your picture". Now they see that I'm a competent electrician, they like me because of the digital pic and they now have my business card!
The guys you meet on the jobsite will get you enormous amounts of work. They spread the word about you to people you would never get to meet. When one trademan recommends another, it carries a lot of weight with most people.
This is a huge resource and works very well.
Whoop! Whoop!

| Agree completely.
A homeowner type client might talk to a couple of neighbors.
Other tradesmen in construction come into contact with people who need electrical work almost everyday.

| i wire a lot of McMansions for out of staters, they love digital 'in progress' pics
and yeah RR, respect is condusive to word of mouth amongst tradesmen, add to it the nads enough to stand one's ground , and probably loose $$$ on principal
