Subject - preparing wire for pull
jwright I am an apprentice and was just wondering if anyone knew the best way to prepare (qty 18) - 16awg wires for a pull in 3/4 pipe.

thanx jim
JimmyDee I have found the best way is to skin about 3" off the end and loop it around the hook or eye of the pulling tape. Tape it a few raps, apply Yellow 77, and pull. I mark them with labels first on both ends rather than ringing them out.

lctrc789 I agree with Jimmy carefully peel back the wire and make you a small head as small as possible and wrap them around the eye of the fish tape.
Try to wrap them and as you you stagger them so you do not have such a large head, install your lube and pull them in, remember that speed here is not necessary pull them in a slower fashion and watch the head and take it east pulling them in good luck
sparkie2170 Gosh, I really hope this is for a communication circuit.
stedder good point sparkie, maybe it's a trick Question!

Ever hear of an industrial control circuit? We pull runs like that all the time for multiple starters etc. Probably not a trick question.
Jim
kbsparky IF you have a lot of wires to pull in at the same time, we have found that cutting ½ of the strands off helps to keep that head to a managable size.

OF course, you have to strip about 2-3" of insulation off the ends of the wires before cutting those strands off in the first place.

jwright thanx guys

I havent pulled many control circuits
just been in the program a couple of years

I am getting ready to go for a mid course assessment and this is one of the tasks.

After prepping these wire the instructor puts the head in a vise and pulls each wire pretty hard ( alot of the guys i work with lose a wire or two) if this happens i fail the test.

there are many ways to do this i just thought that you guys would know the best.

thanx jim
