Scott Vickrey What is your opinion of the electrical forum?
Electricman So far so good
JimmyDee I'm having a great time so far and looks like a forum that I will enjoy for some time. I do see a need to turn on the HTML or even an abbreviated form of it so when links are provided on a post, it doesn't get messy. I've seen link that will fill several lines and if a person makes multiple links in a post, it will make the post unreadable. JMOHO
Jim
JoeG From what I've read...knowlegable and friendly lot!!

Thanks for taking the time to create it!!
Scott Vickrey Jim,
Here's why The HTML is off.
By allowing HTML you are opening up a whole big can of worms. You may wish to allow HTML in a controlled INTRANET environment, though. It is not recommended to be used on the INTERNET as anyone can post anything without your being able to screen it. IE Pornographic pictures, JavaScript that messes up your pages, etc...

I will check out fixing the url issue.
Thanks for the input.
David Hyatt Scott I am really enjoying myself. It seems I read the topics then something comes up at work just like we discussed the day before. Education is the key.
JimmyDee Scott,
I know that some forums have a limited HTML and I thought you might have this in your back pocket. This new site is highly needed and I enjoy it a lot. I've been to some other sites created for other subjects and watched them go down the tube by allowing swearing and porn. The garbage soon drives all the tech talk away. I exhort you to keep this site clean and it will succeed. You have a great site here and I hope it will get big enough to attract many sponsors to help with equipment costs.
Jim
Scott Vickrey Jim,
Have you tried the forum code?
You can put different names for the links like this:
Link to Forum Code Page
To do this use:
Insert Email button and when prompted for the address delete the mailto and enter entire address starting with http.
ricky I really enjoy this forum. Thanks to Jim for pointing out the editor icon.I had'nt noticed this handy little tool for adding more to a post,or correction of mis-information.I wonder if plumbers have a forum?Ha Ha Ha
JimmyDee Just looked up the word "repository" as in the Electrical Knowledge Repository, and found its meaning interesting.
"A facility where things can be deposited for storage or for safe keeping" I guess this is why you chose that name. Of course the word deposit assumes that one will be able to draw out at some point in the future as well.
Jim
Richard Well, Scott Im a newbee in your forum and so far it very interesting. I put the forum in my favorites on aol.So lets see how it goes. Richard
Joe Tedesco Scott:

I like the features and will spend lots of time here!

What does the member status indicate? Starting? Founding?, etc
Scott Vickrey A founding member used to mean that you were one of the first 25 people to register with this site. In order to be fair I have removed this. Anyway, We are glad to have you here.
Scott Vickrey People are withdrawing information daily.
I liked the name and I felt this was the most acurate. I have been very tempted to change it to Electrical Knowledge Exchange. What do you and others think about this?
Dave Nix I like it!

This is a very informative and friendly forum.

Nice job Guys!
iwire Dave Nix put a link up on his site to this one and I must say it is a good looking site.

David Hyatt Welcome and glad you are here.
Scott Vickrey This place fills voids in my electrical knowledge all the time.
I have worked with electricity as a daily profession for 20 years I have had limited experience in residential work and this barrier is being continuously chipped away every day by contributers that are well versed in this area. I am certain the people asking questions are not the only ones benefiting from our efforts. Rather, it has been my experience that the more you participate the more you learn. I have also found that if I make a mistake in my posts someone will feel it their life long duty to point that out. This highly targeted refining of my knowledge is incredibly effective. It leaves enough of an impression on me that I don't readily forget it. I just have to be able to take the correction with the correct attitude and this attitude is my choice alone. I believe that if you were to add all that humans knows we would be lucky if this made a percentage point of what there is to know out there, So there's nothing wrong with not knowing.
Moral: Chime in and feel free to blunder. The more you don't know and are willing to admit the more you will learn. I agree with Jim when he said the only dumb question is the one not asked. I would further his comment with the only dumb answer is the one not ventured. I have learned more from my mistakes than any of my studies and experience. For some reason having been shown your weakness sticks with you in a way that you won't soon forget. Like when electricman busted me for not knowing that I couldn't use the marked white wire for the switch leg. Ouch I will never ever forget that and I should be tankful for it not ashamed. I can't know everything. I'm only human. This brings me to an interesting point. I have noticed an interesting phenomenon of the online communities. Most people (myself included) are easily offended when they come out of their proverbial shell and make a contribution and someone be it sugar coated or not corrects them. You have to remember that you may or may not be reading their response the way they meant when the wrote it. Sure there are people that are stingingly blunt but they don't even know you. This might be the only way they know how to communicate. This may be how they talk to their best friends. This is the real world out here and nothings perfect and pixie dust isn't worth used coffee grounds. I don't know it all I'm still prone to mistakes So are you and all your peers. If you ever feel you know it all you have attained a false sense of bliss and life will beg to differ. To prove this point check this out, I just learned it was winter south of the equator when it was summer here two years ago. I told the person that told me they were crazy. I had never even contemplated this. How did that slip through the cracks?
iwire Scott, you have a lot of great info in that post.

Oh yeah! and while I do not get offended when I am shown wrong I will not forget the lesson learned.

I know that is true for myself also.

Electricman Great post Scott, I think we probably all feel the same way. This is such a great forum thanks for creating it.
Scott Vickrey Thanks to all of you who make it great!
Chris Clement Where did the electronic part go? I was helping a guy with a DC regulator.
David Hyatt Scott, Whatever you feel will promote this site for future growth, its good with me.

I vote you leave it as is.
Jim
Scott Vickrey The laws of branding and more importantly Jim say leave it alone. So I guess it will stay the same.

Chris I'm sorry, that was my mistake. I have emailed you and am waiting for your reply.
