Subject - Educational RFP (Request for proposal)
John A. Peters For educational use only.

I am looking for a small, simple project on which to compare bids. If you have a better one, send it in. Remember some areas don't bend much pipe and other areas don't do much new work. We all use an offset-nipple from time to time.

I hope you will share the look and feel of your proposal or flat rate invoice. The idea is to learn from one another. I am making an attempt to find something that would be about the same work in a residential or small commercial job.

Let's say there is a surface panel in a garage or small shop, and the client wants a 30 amp dryer plug for his welder or compressor. For simplicity sake the unit has a cord with a 4 prong dryer type male cord cap. It requires a 30A 220V circuit. The outlet is to be located adjacent to the surface panel which has room for more breakers and enough power. It is a standard panel like a Murray, Westinghouse, Cutler Hammer or Challenger.

Provide and install a 30A 220V plug receptacle with a 4 prong male dryer plug. Provide all required permits and inspection fees if any. All work to be according to the 2005 National code.

Assume that you have seen the job site as a part of another job, and that the estimate will be reviewed by an absentee landlord or committee, who has paid for a maintenance or preferred customer agreement with in the last year.

I would like to see how your proposal will look, here on the forum. Either post it here or a URL link to it. I will do one too, but I don't want to be first. :-)
John A. Peters I know everyones price will differ. Let's use a retail labor rate of $35.00 per hour (assuming it is easy to set your price book to an arbitrary rate), if not use your regular rate. It is an experiment that is not ao much about the price as it is about the presentation, the wording and the small type if any.
