Subject - Flourescent Lights
Printman24 Have installed two fl. lights in basement. When wall switch is turned on, the lights will not go on until I fiddle with the bulbs. No matter how I put the bulbs in, they still do the same thing. Any ideas?
David Hyatt Most likely a ground problem, make sure the light is grounded.
Scott Vickrey Turn off the power and open the fixture. Check all the wires that connect to the end pieces. Give them a litle pull and see if any are loose. If they are cut and restrip the end and then push them back in. Check your other connections by removing the wire nuts and putting them back on. Also, new lamps are sometimes slow to light.
AMPMWIRED IF THE FIXTURES ARE NEW ,THEN THE PROBLEM IS THE LAMPS ARE THE SOCKETS.ALSO NOT KNOWING IF THE ARE 8FOOTERS,4FOOTERS,H.O. ARE STANDARD LIGHTS.FLOURESCENT FIXTURES WILL NOT OPERATE BELOW 35 DEGREES FAIRENHEIT.CHECK SOCKETS & INSTALL NEW LAMPS.
Electricman Make sure the prongs on the tubes are making contact with the contacts in the tombstones. I have seen some badly manufactured tombstones that did not make good contact. Also check the wires that go into the tombstones that they are installed correctly(pull on them)
Keithdot Sounds as though you have a grounding problem, The ballast must be attached securely to the fixture housing and must be grounded.
