I noticed that another thread in this section has been locked without comment.
It appears to be so ridiculous as to be an exercise in sarcasm, outlining everything one should not do when installing electrical work.
The sad thing here is the thread was posted by a new member, and accurately reflects the real intent of some, as well as common practices in some third world countries.

For as long as I have been here, that was about the 4th or 5th. A couple have been deleted and had I got to that one first, thats probably what I would have done. We have the ability to check IP addresses if it gets out of hand. We have had a couple do a double register also when they were call on just such crap. Jim

| Yeah, I saw this thread and even though I couldn't post a reply, I figured out the guys email address and sent him a note explaining my disbelief. I just really really hope this was a hoax or prank. But, nowadays you just can't be for sure somebody isn't out there actually doing similar "bungies" like that.
Of course, I never got a reply to the email I sent...so here we are.

It is. If you read into it, you have to remember that "lampcord" is a 2-wire product, and the author stated he only connected to 240 Volts.
Most all clothes dryers in the US are dual-voltage, requiring 120/240 to operate. The motor and timer need 120, and the element can be wired for 120 or 240. The appliance won't operate with only 240 Volts connected to it.
Conclusion: Hoax.

| A dryer could work with only two wires. In most laundry rooms the washer and dryer are touching. The bonding strap in a clother dryer commects the neutral terminal to the frame ground if it has not been removed so that you can use 3 wire instead of 4 wire. So you have your two legs comming in on lamp cord, and the dryer is picking up its neutral through the contact with the washer. It is possible, ive seen stranger connections.

Yup, that possibility exists! Very deadly to say the least

| Yup! And the case this being an "Elderly Lady" also tells me her dryer is of the old 2-wire system that didn't require a neutral then, just a ground; if one was available but was neccessary for the dryer to opeate.
Yeah, Ifigured it to be a hoax and alot of the guys around here read the printout that I made. They either laughed or stared at it in disbelief!
