Subject - recessed light above bathtub
ChicoMarin If you install a recessed light above a bathtub, does it have to be GFI protected?
cal_sparky Not per Code. But I think it'd be a good idea, if the ceiling height was low enough that there is any possibility of touching the trim ring.

Cliff
david r yes you may put a recessed light above a shower
provided the trim is rated for wet location
gfci protection is not required.
Scott Vickrey Remember, the written codes are the minimum requirements. You are free to meet or exceed it. The code could also be modified in your area. Ask your local electrical inspector where you can find a listing of your local ordinances or other electrical rules.
Electricman The code concerning lighting and the types of lighting fixtures installed above or near tubes or shower areas is 410-4d.
