I tried to hook up a delta/wye 240/208 xfmr up w/ the circuit energized. A phase was no problem. B & C phase produced an arc like a welder. Any suggestions? I have 3 phase 240 and need 3 phase 208

| I did answer this but will do so here as well. The arc you saw will intensify for 2 reasons. First because of the transformer coil being a virtual dead short and if you do not make instantaneous contact, and pull the connection, you will have an enormous inductive kick back that will really give you a huge spark. If your transformer is hooked up correctly, I would say this is normal. However, with that said, you should have a 3 pole disconnect in front of this set up. Why do you need the 208 volt setup that the 240 volt can't do for you? Jim

| Patrick, Do us all a favor and do not try to hookup a transformer while energize. You will live alot longer. Just a word of advice. Thanks Alfred Johnson
