Subject - Dimmer switch tabs

I know the dimmer switch tabs help disapate heat (atleast that's what i've been told). Sometimes when you have multiple dimmers in a ganged box, you need to remove the tabs, between dimmer, and dimmer, sometimes you need to remove tabs on both sides to get the switches to seat nice in the box. Does anyone know exactly how many tabs your aloud to remove?? Does it depend on the load?? Does it matter at all??

| Mike, Most of the dimmers that I install are 600 watt. For each heat tab you remove you derate, most dimmers are labeled as to what that is. It all depends on the connected load as to how many you can snap off.
