Subject - Peculiar Romex Wiring Method
Romex Racer When I wire a new house, first I box, then (after creating an efficient drawing) I start roping from box to box. I'll run the romex to a box, staple it, go back to the box that I started from, eyeball it and cut it, push it in the box, staple it and move on. Pretty normal. Of course I make up, slap on safety plates, etc...

But occasionally I see guys run the romex into a box, make a u-turn and head out the other KO destined to the next box where they do the same. They might have 10 boxes threaded with one continuous NM cable.

I've only seen this as I drove past jobs, I was never able to see what happended later. This seems very odd, I would think it would be very time consuming to have to feed 90 feet of cable through every drilled hole and box.

But I've seen this. Very peculiar.
in2serenity I think you must be mistaken in some way. I've pulled 90' of wire past the boxes then pull loops and cut them in. I've never seen anyone loop the wire through the box. They are probably stapling a loop above the box to come back later and cut and put in the box maybe??
stedder Yea I'd say just pull through the holes in studs, leave loops, then go back, neaten up and cut in. Or have someone follow behind like an assembly line. Never seen the pull through each box thing, sounds like a pain in the arse
Romex Racer 10-4, maybe that's what I saw, they must've pulled the whole thing, tugged down loops like you said, then go back and cut and makeup... That must be it. Thanks
Mike Delaney I've seen Bob Vilas friends on TV wiring houses, in what I thought was unusual. The elctrician would mark out the house, drill, pull the wire to a box, staple with a pair of pliers (because he said the hammer would pound the staple to hard into the wire??), then proceed to strip his wire with the pliers, insert it into the box, twist the ground, and use a crimp sleeve (with what else), with his pliers...this to me would take forever, and in this area you have to use an approved crimp tool. Oh well, to each his own. Some people staple the romex in the box, then strip it in, other staple to the box, strip it, the insert it...I don't think one is faster than the other...just the person.
ladyestrogen In my exp., electricians are arrogant enough to come up with their own styles. I can't imagine pulling down and back up thru a box like that. too hard a pull. I pull and leave a loop above my drilled hole and then go back, cut the loop and feed down to the box after finishing the pull. The one diff I see in everyone else's is that everyone I know leaves the romex cut at approx length hanging out of the box and when the whole house is pulled, we go back and work the boxes to finish the R/I. Then go back thru and firecaulk and nailguard in one swoop.
