how can you check to see if a gfi is serving as a gound fault without tripping the test button i seen it work and hook up wrong

| Use a pair of Wiggies from ground to the hot and it will trip the GFCI. Jim

| According to UL, the only way you are supposed to test GFCI's is with the button.

| OK Ryan why does my inspector (and others) use the plug in w/ trip ( they're probably UL listed too ) guess they got the market from all angles.

| I use it too, but the listing says otherwise.
The reason myself and other inspectors use it is because its easier.
