We have a copy machine in our office. It malfunctions when the electric melting furnace is being used out in the foundry.
It is on a separate circuit and we have monitored the voltage at the outlet in the office. We have had people here from the power comapny, the copy machine service company, and the electric furnace mfg.
We put a line conidtioner in and it still malfunctions when the furnace is running full tilt.
Can this be a harmonics issue?
We've had 3 degreed electrical engineers here and none can solve our problem.
I can provide anybody with any more info that they might need to give me an educated guess.
Thanks, Joe

| I forgot to mention a reward for anybody that points me in the right direction and solves this year long problem.
I was thinking of a gift certificate to your favorite place to eat.
Thanks, Joe

| Joey, It's hard to tell you exactly what's going on with out seeing the current waveform. However, We'll assume two likely causes: 1. Harmonics- An inductive heating device is a source of harmonics. Solution- Try running a dedicated circuit with it's own neutral wire to the receptacle this means no sharing. 2. Ground noise- Most electronic equipment can't function reliably without a good reference to ground. If there is alot of noise present(inductance) on the ground wire. You'll have problems. Solution- Use an isolated ground. This is a wire that starts at the main distribution panel and terminates on an isolated ground receptacle (Orange w/ a green triange) without connecting to any other point. Both solutions should be done together. Since they both involve pulling wire through the same conduit.
Other Points The filter you bought may not be robust enough. If all else fails install an isolation transformer. Here's some info on isolated grounds: http://www.kennedyelectric.com/SureTest/Suretest-IsolatedGroundOutletVerification.htm Here's someInfo on harmonics:http://members.tripod.com/~masterslic/harmonics.html
Good luck and feel free to ask if you have anymore questions.
